Cuban artist Mara Tieles is a versatile musician specializing in modern and early music. She has been the recipient of various international contests including the First Absolute Prize of Cittá di Barletta, the First Prize in the Rome Strings International Contest and the Third Prize in the Ibero-American String Contest.

Mara is the beneficiary of a long tradition of internationally recognized music performers. She began playing the violin tutored by her father, a disciple of David Oistrach. 

Concerts have taken her all over Europe, Latin America, North America and the Middle East to prominent concert stages and venues such as the Berliner Philharmonnie (Germany), Saint John Smith Square (London), Palau de la Musica (Spain), Salle Gaveau Paris (France), Teatro Kirchner (Argentina), Palacio de Bellas Artes (Mexico), Concertgebouw (Netherlands).

Among her projects is to help expand the contemporary Cuban music repertoire written for the viola. For this she has worked specially with Cuban composers like Alfredo Diez Nieto (Preludio N. 5 for viola & piano) and Ivette Herryman ('On the Inside') whom have composed for her.
